Miley Cyrus voted worst celebrity influence

Miley has been voted the number one worst celebrity influence by tweens and teens on AOL’s Just So You Know website. Britney Spears and Kanye West, who came in second and third.

Miley Cyrus, one of Disney’s hottest stars of the past three years with hit records and hit films, has been voted the worst celebrity influence of 2009 by the very people who made her a star, tweens and teens, according to an online poll on Wednesday. Cyrus, 16, took 42 percent of votes in the poll for AOL’s JSYK.com (Just So You Know) website aimed at 9-15 year-olds, pushing Britney Spears and rapper Kanye West into second and third places, respectively, in a section on worst celebrity influences of the year.

No reasons were given for the poor showing of the singer-actress and the popular star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” television series. But the ranking follows a year which has seen Cyrus controversially dating a 20 year-old model, making “slant eyes” in an informal snapshot criticized as mocking Asians, and being accused of pole-dancing on a teen awards show.

Cyrus also came in No. 4 in the category of favorite female artist, behind 19-year-old country sensation Taylor Swift, “I Kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry and R&B star Beyonce. The poll attracted almost 50,000 votes. “I think Miley is in an interesting space where she is trying to graduate from being ‘Hannah Montana’ and a Disney channel celebrity and coming into her own and having a career beyond Disney,” said Stephanie Cohen, editor of JSYK.com.

Sandra Bullock: “I’m aware that I can be annoying.”

Sandra Bullock is one of Hollywood's most popular and successful stars. But don't let the romantic-comedy sweetheart fool you, she's as tough as she is sweet. In her newest film, The Blind Side, due out Nov. 20, Bullock plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, a flamboyant well-to-do Southerner who makes a life-changing decision to adopt a disadvantaged African-American boy who goes on to become a star football player.

Sandra Bullock told Jeanne Wolf that she didn't have to look very far to find the inspiration to play such a strong woman. Check out the excerpts below, then visit Parade.com on Friday (Oct. 30) to read the full interview from Sunday's issue of PARADE.

Her unexpected passion.
"I like to iron. Ironing is comfort. It's control. I'm a nutty person who likes to make sure everything is in its place. I am a big ball of high energy and organization and structure. Don't forget, I'm half-German."

She may play adorable onscreen, but in real life, she is driven.
"Listen, I know I'm not easy to deal with. I'm controlling, and I want everything orderly, and I need lists. My mind goes a mile a minute. I'm difficult on every single level. I'm aware that I can be annoying."

Her newest film, The Blind Side.
"It's a film about people doing something for the betterment of someone else in the world. It deals with the ugly side of racial tension, which is still the truth of the South. I could really identify with my character's determination and outspokenness. She faces some daunting challenges. I understood the fierce sense of what's right and wrong that was driving her."

Just like mom.
"My mom was like that. She had blinders on. She did what she did and didn't care what people thought. But as a kid, I was like, 'Oh, dear God, please make her stop and be normal.' I wanted an ordinary mom. My sister, Gesine, and I were lucky enough to be raised by a mother who did things unconventionally, and a father who was fine with the kids being raised that way. There was no gender in our house. I didn't realize that I couldn't do what boys could do, because my dad raised me as a boy."

Struggling to cope with grief and keep her career on track after her mother's death in 2000.
"I thought, 'How do I work through this?' I don't want to be one of those people who bottles it up. Asking for help was the biggest thing I ever learned. That was a tricky one for me. I usually feel like I can do everything. But I went for help after my mom passed away."

Marriage was never on the to-do list.
"I didn't grow up thinking, 'I'm gonna get married and have someone take care of me. I always wanted to be happy, have a good time, work hard."

Serendipity brought Bullock together with husband Jesse James. The two met when she went to his bike shop to introduce him to her godson, who was a fan.

“After that meeting, Jesse tracked me down. I had no intention of going out with him. I said no for a month, but then I got to know him. I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but he committed for the long haul.”

Finding a partner for life.
“It’s lucky when you have a partner. It took someone like him who was unafraid. My energy can be daunting. Do you really want to wake up to this at 5 in the morning? Apparently, he did.”

A changed woman.
“I was good at bolting before. I didn’t want to do the work. And I was too selfish to have kids. Now I work at what I love. If I didn’t love him, I wouldn’t be putting in the effort. I do approach things differently now that I’m married. I would never do anything that would harm his heart.”

Falling into step-motherhood.
“The universe put this in our lap. I seemed to have stepped in right when I needed to be there. I now know that anything sweet, really sweet, that I have was nothing that I planned. If you don’t have kids and animals, you don’t truly know what real life is about.”

Embracing her own unconventional nature.
“I never did anything according to what anyone else wanted. That’s why I think I am happy. I do everything 100%–even my stupidest missteps. I know when I’m getting ready to mess up, I’m going to do it full-on. That’s the way I was as a kid. Even into adulthood, I look back at some things and go, ‘I can’t believe I did that.’ But I can also go back and say, ‘I did that, I know I’m responsible for that, and I can make amends,’ and we can all laugh at it, because it’s my mistake. I try not to blame it on anyone else unless I fully know it was their fault–and then I have no problem pointing the finger.

Living with no regrets.
“I have to fight every single day to live my true life. I don’t ever want to come home saying, ‘I should have spoken my mind. I shouldn’t have let someone say something that I didn’t feel was right.’ [But] I have to remember that there’s a balance. I’m in the entertainment business. We’re here to entertain people, to make them laugh and forget.”

Show Halloween Costumes, Starring Yoda Kotb and Matt Skywalker

For this year’s costume party, ‘Today’ traveled to a galaxy far, far away for inspiration. Why ‘Star Wars’? As Yoda would say: Dwell on the logic you mustn’t. Just enjoy the ridiculousness of this most beloved annual tradition of watching Matt Lauer and company acting silly.

Working with George Lucas, the gang gussied up in elaborate costumes — surrounded by Stormtroopers and huge set pieces from the original films. Al Roker showed up as Han Solo, while Meredith Vieira (with an Ewok by her side) bunned up as Princess Leia, Kathie Lee Gifford suited up as C-3PO, Ann Curry as cyborg meanie Darth Vader and Erin Burnett as Padme Amidala.

But the real fun began when Matt Lauer, as Luke Skywalker, had a hard time getting out of his X-Wing Fighter. The hatch opened at a crawl, leaving Lauer/Skywalker thoroughly helpless. “I got a bad feeling about this,” Roker joked. After making some “c’mon, c’mon” gestures, Lauer was a finally able to pull himself out.

“Sorry, I’m late. I was on my laptop.”

But the awkwardness level truly exploded moments later when Hoda Kotb emerged as — you guessed it — Yoda Kotb. “I am Yoda, I am.” Unsure what to do next, Lauer began thanking George Lucas for providing the props, before being reminded that Curry was still wearing her Vader mask and needed to be introduced.

Later, an Ewok got a little frisky with Meredith. “Don’t touch my butt!” she said.

Fans of synergy and corporate tie-ins will be curious as to why ‘Star Wars’ was chosen this year, when topics like the vampire craze, reality shows (’Jon & Kate’) and ‘Mad Men’ could have been tackled. If you need a reason, go with the ‘Star Wars: In Concert’ live symphony show that is touring the nation right now.

Lavigne officially files for divorce from Deryck Whibley

Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from Deryck Whibley.

The singer, 25, cites “irreconcilable differences” in court paperwork, according to TMZ.com. She’s not asking for spousal support, and has also requested not to pay spousal support to Whibley.

Us Weekly first reported on Sept. 17 that the pair had called it quits after three years and one month of marriage.

“She dumped him and told him she was leaving him. She wants to move on,” a source told Us, adding that she forced him out of their $9.5 million, 12,000-square-foot estate in L.A.’s Bel Air.

Whibley, 29, “is crushed,” another insider told Us then.

The following day, Lavigne confirmed on her blog that she was separating from her Sum 41 rocker husband.

“Deryck and I have been together for six and a half years,” she wrote. “We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21.

“I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship. I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart,” she went on. “Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.”
